Live updates from the first round of the Masters

Jon Rahm arrived at Augusta National on Wednesday sleep-deprived and out of practice, but the world’s No. 3 player, one of the favorites this week, has never been happier. Rahm’s wife, Kelley, welcomed the couple’s first child, Kepa Cahill Rahm, on Friday.

With his wife’s due date this weekend, Rahm was prepared to leave Augusta to be with her whenever the baby arrived, but their son decided to come early.

“Luckily, I’ve played here before, and I always have a good vibe when I come here,” Rahm said.

Rahm, who has finished in the top 10 in his last three Masters appearances — including a seventh-place finish last year — is grouped with Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele for the first two rounds

“My first round as a dad, I shot 64, so he’s got that to live up to,” joked McIlroy, who became a dad shortly before the first round at the Tour Championship in September.

Rahm opened Thursday with a par and a birdie. He was even through 14 holes.
