Barbora Krejcikova honors late coach and wins a French Open filled with twists and upsets

Unseeded Barbora Krejcikova pulled off her fair share of upsets as well. She beat four seeded players, including No. 24 seed Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals, and one Grand Slam champion, Sloane Stephens, on her way to a wild semifinal where she bested No. 17 seed Maria Sakkari, 7-5, 4-6, 9-7. Krejcikova is not among the power players who dominate the game today; she’s relied on loping, off-rhythm groundstrokes, creative shot making and an excellent feel at net — no surprise, given her doubles prowess — to move through the draw.
