MLB’s new postseason format and wild-card races, explained

The Major League Baseball postseason begins Friday, and for the first time in two decades, the Seattle Mariners are joining the party. For the first time in a decade, the Philadelphia Phillies will, too. And for the first time ever, two division winners in each league will receive a bye into the division series while the others face off in three-game wild-card series to determine who advances.
