Sharon Lokedi, Evans Chebet of Kenya win New York City Marathon

The men’s and women’s handcycle divisions are off, with the first men expected to complete the race in about 1 hour 35 minutes and the top women finishing in approximately two hours.

Locals took home the men’s and women’s handcyclist titles in 2021. Roderick Sewell II, a Paralympic athlete and swimmer from Brooklyn, is the reigning men’s champion, finishing in 1:35:13 with a 3:38 pace per mile; Keeseville, N.Y.,’s Devann Murphy was the fastest women’s finisher, completing the race in 2:09:35.

Both competitors crossed the finish line with relatively comfortable leads. Sewell finished over four minutes faster than second-place Dennis McGorty, and Murphy owned almost an eight-minute advantage over fellow New Yorker Jessica Hayon. Last year, 38 competitors completed the race.
