Olena Zelenska and her children are “holding on,” just like all other Ukrainian families, Ukraine’s first lady told The Washington Post’s 2022 Global Women’s Summit on Tuesday in a prerecorded interview.

“These are very difficult harsh, dark times, and unfortunately they don’t have a chance to spend a lot of time with their father,” she said of her two children with Ukraine’s wartime president, Volodymyr Zelensky. She added that the situation of all families in Ukraine was similar: “It doesn’t matter if it’s the presidential family or average citizen’s family. Every child is waiting for the victory, just as adults,” she said.
