Semi truck with an oversized construction trailer stuck under Colorado bridge

Traffic on U.S. Interstate 70 westbound in Colorado has been halted Friday after a truck carrying an oversized construction trailer got stuck under a bridge.

The crash occurred at around 11:01 a.m. MST, the Colorado State Patrol Golden Troop posted on social media, with all westbound lanes being closed within five minutes. No injuries were reported to the driver or people nearby, law enforcement said.

The traffic has been rerouted onto Colorado State Highway 470 eastbound while the lanes are blocked.

The patrol troop also posted pictures of the stuck truck, which got twisted with damage to its roof. There is also damage to the bridge itself near where the truck’s 80,000-pound load first went under the bridge.

Colorado Department of Transportation crews responded to inspect the scene, but there is no timetable for when the truck will be removed and westbound traffic past mile marker 260 will be able to resume.

“The westbound C-470 ramp to westbound I-70 is also closed. CDOT maintenance crews have been on scene working to remove the truck, and CDOT’s bridge crew will then assess any bridge damage. There is no estimated time of reopening until the truck can be moved and any damage to the bridge can be assessed,” CDOT posted on Facebook.
