Amazon launches workplace-safety pledge, acknowledges it ‘has work to do’

The company will announce plans Thursday to give the nonprofit advocacy group, perhaps best known for its driver-safety initiatives, the funds to conduct research and develop technology to reduce musculoskeletal disorders, or MSDs. Those sorts of wear-and-tear problems account for about 40 percent of the injuries at Amazon’s warehouses, Heather MacDougall, Amazon’s vice president of worldwide workplace health and safety, said during a news conference Wednesday.
