Dow pops 500 points as stock markets shrug off warnings from China

Steadied by reassuring news this week from the Federal Reserve and receding fears of collapse from China Evergrande Group, the Dow Jones industrial average jumped 506.50 points, or 1.5 percent, to close at 34,764.82. The S&P 500-stock index picked up 53.34 points, or 1.2 percent, to end at 4,448.98. The tech-heavy Nasdaq climbed 155.39 points, or 1.0 percent, to 15,052.24.
