Post Politics Now: Biden calls for Congress to ban assault weapons, high-capacity magazines

The killings in Uvalde, Tex., happened a few days before Memorial Day, and many observers have suggested there should be some kind of holiday memorializing victims of gun violence. Biden didn’t add his voice to that chorus, but he leaned into the horrifying parallel, saying more children had been killed by guns than soldiers and police officers, and spoke of classrooms that resembled battlefields. “For the last two decades, more school-aged children have died from guns than on-duty police officers and active-duty military [members] combined,” he said. “For God’s sake, how much more carnage are we willing to accept? How many more innocent American lives must be taken before we say enough?”
