Germany’s Dresden city area briefly evacuated over hostage incident

German police briefly evacuated areas of the eastern city of Dresden on Saturday morning due to a hostage-taking incident, closing an area around a shopping center and a Christmas market amid reports that shots had been fired.

A few hours later, two people had been freed and were “apparently unharmed” and the hostage situation had been resolved, police in the state of Saxony wrote on Twitter. A spokesman told a local news outlet that a man had been arrested.
