Cole Holcomb set to join Steelers on three-year deal: Report

Former Commanders linebacker Cole Holcomb plans to join the Pittsburgh Steelers on a three-year contract, according to a report.

The NFL Network reported Wednesday that Holcomb‘s deal is contingent on a physical. The 2019 fifth-round pick is coming off a season-ending foot injury that limited him to just seven games last season. But when healthy, Holcomb has proved to be a reliable linebacker with good speed and smart instincts. 

Holcomb, who started 48 of 50 games, leaves the Commanders after four seasons. Washington had hoped to retain him, but the two sides were reportedly far apart on money. Days earlier, Washington signed former Seahawks linebacker Cody Barton to a one-year, $3.5 million deal — an indication that Holcomb‘s time with Washington could be coming to an end. 

The Commanders, meanwhile, will likely still look to add help at linebacker, even with Barton’s addition. The Commanders’ linebacker corps includes starter Jamin Davis, veteran David Mayo, Milo Eifler, Nate Gerry, Khaleke Hudson, De’Jon Harris and Barton. 

The financial details of Holcomb‘s contract have yet to be reported.
