Road sign in Houston edited to deliver profane message to motorists

Drivers in Houston were sent a profane message this week when someone edited a road sign in the city’s Montrose neighborhood to read “Due To Weather Go F*** Your Self.”

The sign was positioned just ahead of a roadside worksite.

A photograph of the sign was posted to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, at 8:12 a.m. local time on Monday, giving the message wider reach.

Houston Public Works has not yet determined which contractor hired by the city to do construction work owns the sign.

“This sign was not a Houston Public Works sign. A City inspector visited the location and turned the sign off. We were unable to locate who the sign belonged to,” an agency spokesperson told Chron.com, the online-only newspaper operated by the Houston Chronicle.

Messages on the sign and those like it are controlled by equipment in a locked box attached to the sign. Whoever the sign’s editor was, they either had access or experience working construction, an unnamed HPW employee told Chron.
