Rep. Nancy Mace won’t rule out ouster of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy

Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina refused Sunday to rule out supporting an effort to strip House Speaker Kevin McCarthy of his leadership position.

She suggested that fellow Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida should follow through on his threats to file a motion to vacate against Mr. McCarthy.

“If he’s going to do it, put his money where his mouth is,” Ms. Mace said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Mr. McCarthy has said as much, telling House Republicans in a closed-door meeting last week that if any critics “want to file a motion to vacate, then file the f——— motion” rather than holding it over his head as leverage amid government funding negotiations with Democrats.

“We’ll see how it turns out, but I will tell you, I’m one of those members who were made certain promises,” Ms. Mace said. “I’ve worked on women’s issues. I’ve worked on issues you know, related to gun violence, that I feel are very important. And you know, it’s fallen on deaf ears. And if I, if I give a handshake to someone, I expect them to follow through.”
