New York Young Republicans Club plans significant party

Leave it to the New York Young Republicans Club — founded in 1856 and incorporated in 1911 — to be the relative force behind what used to be known as a “very swell affair.”

The organization will host its 111th annual Gala on Saturday — a black-tie event that features “a night of dinner, drinking, and love of country with President Trump,” the organization noted in its public description of the event.

“President Trump inspired a massive grassroots movement and was elected 45th President of the United States in November 2016. His victory was the greatest upset in American political history, becoming the nation’s first president without a military or political background. President Trump put America first for four years, delivering prosperity, security, and peace for the forgotten men and women of our country,” the description said.

Mr. Trump will serve as the keynote speaker, the club said.

Guests will enjoy butler-passed hors d’oeuvres, and a multicourse French-service dinner with high-profile speakers, the organizers say.

But on to the lengthy and wide-ranging guest list. They include Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas, Reps. Paul Gosar of Arizona, Matt Gaetz of Florida and Mike Collins of Georgia, former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik and political commentator Deroy Murdock.

INTERNSHIP OF NOTE

“The Young Leaders Program has grown to become one of the top policy internships in the nation. We prepare our interns for their future roles as conservative leaders,” the advisory said.

It is of note that Republican Sens. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Tom Cotton of Arkansas are alumni of the program, as is Judge Neomi Rao, who was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in March 2019 and was associate White House counsel to former President George W. Bush.

FOXIFIED

In the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 3, Fox News was the most-watched network in the cable realm, both in prime time and throughout the day. The network averaged 2 million daily prime-time viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research, compared with MSNBC with 952,000 and CNN with 402,000.

Some special programming also attracted a substantial audience. Sean Hannity’s town-hall meeting with former President Donald Trump on Tuesday had an audience of 3.2 million — which represented 64% of the entire cable news viewership, the network said in a statement.

Meanwhile, “The Five” still reigns as the most popular regular programming on Fox News, pulling in an audience of 2.8 million viewers. On Sunday, Maria Bartiromo’s “Sunday Morning Futures” was the most-watched program of the weekend, with an audience of 1.4 million.

SUMMING IT UP

The Republican Party keeps close tabs on the nation’s borders. Here’s a current summary compiled by Jake Schneider, director of rapid response for the Republican National Committee.

“Earlier this week, more than 12,000 illegal immigrants were encountered at the southern border in a single day — the highest daily total ever recorded — with individual sectors also reporting record totals. The staggering numbers come amid a flood of ‘single, adult men’ from African, Middle Eastern, and Asian countries, and a ‘resurgence of smuggling’ from Mexico,” Mr. Schneider wrote, attributing the numbers to an eye-opening report released by Fox News on Thursday.

“Illegal immigrants are literally thanking President Biden for the open border. Yet, Democrats act shocked that Republicans are demanding a secure border. Biden says border security is ‘political,’ ‘draconian,’ and ‘extreme.’ Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says border security is akin to ‘violence.’ Budget Director Shalanda Young is ‘stunned’ by Republican efforts. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre thinks simple border security measures are ‘extreme,’ though she is unable to name any specifics,” Mr. Schneider said in his written report.

“Senate Democrats aren’t even trying to hide their carelessness for border security, even as authorities warn terrorists may attempt to ‘exploit’ the southern border over the holiday season. Instead, Democrats are holding border security hostage under the guise of ‘national security.’ I will say it louder for those in the press: Border security is national security. Secure our border!” Mr. Schneider declared, exclamation point and all.
