Biden slams impeachment inquiry: ‘Attacking me with lies’

President Biden on Wednesday blasted House Republicans after they voted to formalize an impeachment inquiry, calling it a “baseless political stunt.”

“Instead of doing anything to help make Americans’ lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies. Instead of doing their jobs on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political student that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts,” Mr. Biden said in a statement.

The president pointed to issues like the economy, the border, and aid for Israel and Ukraine as among the issues Republicans “won’t act to help.”

He also lashed out at Republicans for leaving Washington for a holiday break before reaching a compromise on any of those issues.

The president pointedly called out Republicans for the turmoil within their party, including ousting former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and expelling Rep. George Santos.

The House voted along party lines Wednesday to formalize the impeachment inquiry with a vote of 221-212.

The impeachment inquiry is pursuing Mr. Biden for alleged involvement in influence-peddling schemes disguised as foreign business deals that enriched his son Hunter Biden and other family members.
