NBA G League player, girlfriend charged with murder after woman’s remains found in Las Vegas desert

An NBA G League player has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of a 23-year-old woman in Las Vegas earlier this month.

FBI agents took Chance Comanche into custody Friday in Sacramento County, California, on charges of kidnapping in connection with the Dec. 6 disappearance of Marayna Rodgers.

ESPN reported Sunday evening that Mr. Comanche, 27, and his girlfriend had charges upgraded to murder when Ms. Rodgers’ remains were found in a desert area in Henderson, Nevada.

Mr. Comanche is set to appear in court on Tuesday. He is being held without bond.

Las Vegas police had arrested Sakari Harnden, 19, on kidnapping charges last week. She remains behind bars on $500,000 bail.

According to ESPN, Ms. Rodgers had “a prearranged meeting” on Dec. 5 with Ms. Harnden, who brought along Mr. Comanche.

“Early in the investigation, detectives suspected foul play and obtained evidence to arrest Harnden and her boyfriend Comanche for their role in the kidnapping and disappearance of Rodgers,” Las Vegas police said in a statement.

ESPN reported that Ms. Rodgers is “a medical assistant from Washington state who last was seen in the Las Vegas area.”

Mr. Comanche was released by the Stockton Kings on Friday, the day of his arrest. The Kings declined to comment on Mr. Comanche’s release.

The Stockton Kings played a game in Henderson, Nevada, on Dec. 5, the day before Ms. Rodgers was last seen alive. The team played another game in Portland, Oregon, on Dec. 7.
