Report: Ron Rivera will be fired at end of season

Josh Harris has reportedly made up his mind about Ron Rivera as the Washington Commanders’ coach, no matter what happens the rest of the season. 

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Saturday that the Commanders will fire Rivera at the end of the season.

“Since acquiring the team, new owner Josh Harris has had the vision to keep Rivera in place through the end of the season, then move on. It’s really not a secret anymore,” she wrote, citing sources.

Rivera has yet to record a winning season during four seasons in Washington, and the Commanders were 4-9 entering Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Asked in November about his job status, Rivera said he remained committed to doing the best he could for the rest of the season.

“I understand the situation of circumstances, but I’m not going to waver on anything,” he said. “I’m going to stick to what I talked about in the spring and that was the growth and development of the quarterback and the offensive unit.

“My biggest disappointment has been we haven’t played as well on defense as we needed to. Does that make my job security shaky? It could. I have no idea what Mr. Harris is going to do. So all I can do is just focus in on each game, each week, and just stay on that game. I did the same thing in Carolina, and the truth is, this is the nature of the game. I get it. So, if it happens, it happens. If I stay, I stay. So until then, I will just continue to work.”
