RFK Jr. rips Colorado Supreme Court for banning Trump from ballot: ‘Let the voters choose’

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. blasted as undemocratic Tuesday’s Colorado court decision keeping former President Donald Trump off the state’s ballot.

Mr. Kennedy said on social media that the Colorado Supreme Court was acting in a way that the U.S. wouldn’t hesitate to denounce were it happening in a foreign country.

“Trump blocked from the ballot in Colorado. When a court in another country disqualifies an opposition candidate from running, we say, ‘That’s not a real democracy.’ Now it’s happening here,” he posted on X.

The former Democratic-primary hopeful said he is not a Trump supporter — “if I were, I wouldn’t be running against him!” he added.

“But I want to beat him in a fair election, not because he was kicked off the ballot. Let the voters choose, not the courts!” he concluded in a two-post thread.

The court ruled earlier Tuesday evening that Mr. Trump was ineligible to appear on the state ballot under the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment. The “insurrection” provision of that post-Civil War amendment says people who engage in insurrection against the United States are ineligible to hold federal office.

The 4-3 state court majority ruled that Mr. Trump’s encouragement of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots triggered that clause.
